Cowboy Golf: Oklahoma State Advances to NCAA Championships
The Cowboys tied for first in the Urbana Regional.
For the 76th time in 78 seasons, the Cowboys are headed to the NCAA Championship.
Oklahoma State finished the Urbana Regional tied with Illinois atop the leaderboard at 15-under through three rounds. After finishing 2-over as a team through the first round, the Cowboys shot 9-under on Tuesday and closed with an 8-under Wednesday.
Fresh off winning his second Big 12 individual title, sophomore Preston Stout was the highest-finishing Cowboy in Urbana. He finished tied for eighth at 5-under. He saved his best for last, carding a 5-under 66 in the third round. It was the third-lowest round anyone had at the event.
Sophomore Gaven Lane wasn’t far behind. He tied for 11th just a shot back from Stout. Lane also saved his best round for the end. After carding a 73 on Tuesday, he shot 67 on Wednesday to climb up the leaderboard.
Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson, only a freshman, finished in 16th, finishing 2-under for the tournament. His best round came Tuesday when he shot a 68.
Then came sophomore Ethan Fang, who tied for 21st at 1-over through three rounds. Sophomore Eric Lee rounded out the Cowboys’ scoring with a 3-over 214 through three rounds.
This team win in Urbana is the Cowboys’ sixth of the season, and they’ve won the past four events they’ve gone to heading into the NCAA Championship.
The NCAA Championship is May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.
