OSU Golf: Cowboys Advances to NCAA Final after Thrilling Win against Ole Miss
OSU will face Virginia in Wednesday’s final.
The Cowboys beat two SEC teams on Tuesday, and if they can beat an ACC team on Wednesday, they’ll be national champions.
After toppling Bedlam rival Oklahoma earlier in the day, Oklahoma State beat Ole Miss 3-2 in the semifinal at the NCAA Championship in what has to be one of the better match-play battles of recent memory. It came down to OSU’s Eric Lee and the Rebels’ Cohen Trolio. The two went to a playoff hole where Lee sunk a par putt to send the Cowboys into the final.

Lee and Trolio tied the final five holes ahead of the playoff. It looked as if Lee was going to win it on 18 when Trolio launched his ball onto the cart path before Lee hit this beauty:

But Trolio was allowed to remove his ball from the cart path, and it ended up not being all that terrible of a lie. He then hit a beauty of a chip shot onto the green and salvaged the tie.
That battle was only part of the awesome team battle, though.
Each team had one somewhat comfortable win. OSU sophomore Preston Stout beat Michael La Sasso 5&4, and Ole Miss’ Kye Meeks beat Gaven Lane 4&2.
Then Ole Miss had a tight win when Tom Fischer beat sophomore Ethan Fang on the final hole to give the Rebels a 2-1 lead.
But as crazy as Lee’s battle with Trolio was, Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson’s win against Cameron Tankersley was even crazier. Fahlberg-Johnsson was up three through seven holes, but Tankersley won the eighth and 10th to get it back down to one. Fahlberg-Johnsson held that lead all the way until the 18th hole when a Tankersley birdie sent the match into a playoff.
The playoff started with the par-3 16th. Both guys brutally double-bogeyed the hole, sending it to another extra hole. There, Fahlberg-Johnsson birdied the par-4 17th, putting an end to the roller coaster and setting up Lee’s finish.

Oklahoma State will play Virginia in the national final on Wednesday. Golf Channel’s coverage of the final starts at 5 p.m. Central. An OSU win would be the program’s 12th, a tally that trails only Houston (16).
