LIVE BLOG: Oklahoma State at No. 14 Texas Tech
Updates and reactions from the Cowboys’ trip to Lubbock.
FINAL: OSU 0, TTU 42
End of Q4: OSU 0, TTU 42
The Cowboys have fourth-and-3 at the TTU 40-yard-line when play resumes. Noah Walters picked up six yards on a keeper but came up short.
Tech Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 42
Tech has broken the drive chart. Standby for updates.
Tech Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 35
On the very next play, Tech RB Cameron Dickey fumbled and gave it back to the Pokes. We’ve hit some ugly football.
OSU Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 35
Another Sesi Vailahi fumble. Tech takes over at the OSU 31.
Tech Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 35
The Cowboys’ defense does get beat this time. Or helps to beat itself. A nice tip/pick and return for LaDainian Fields is called back for an offsides call. Fields, winded, hit the bench and then Griffis went back to the same side of the field. This time it was a 42-yard TD.
OSU Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 28
Looks like Will Hammond subbed out due to injury and is done for the day. Behren Morton has changed clothes so apparently might be available.
For the Cowboys, Sam Jackson is back in at QB. Same jersey, same result. Drive stalls
HALFTIME: OSU 0, TTU 28
The Cowboys’ defense has actually played pretty well and is the only reason it’s not a lot more out of hand. They’ve really gotten beat just one drive. The other offensive score came off a blocked punt that gave Tech a 26-yard field.
Both teams have had QB changes. Neither has resulted in positive results. The Cowboys are probably happy to be down only 28 at the half.
OSU Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 28
Another QB change. It’s Noah Walters in for OSU. Different jersey, same result. Three-and-out gives Tech the ball at its own 19 with 68 seconds until halftime.
Tech’s 6th (?) Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 28
I am going to discontinue the drive count. They keep scoring when it’s not their turn to score.
Mitch Griffis has apparently taken over for Will Hammond at QB for Tech. He gets sacked for the second time today by Mordecai McDaniel and the Cowboys get a stop.
OSU’s 5th Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 28
Oof.
Jacob Rodriguez just stole the ball from Sesi Vailahi and ran it back 69 yards for a TD.
Tech’s 5th Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 21
Cowboys had a fourth-and-8 when Malik Charles batted a ball down, but that was called back for an illegal substitution penalty.
The Red Raiders went for it on fourth-and-1 and Wendell Gregory teleported into the backfield for the huge sack to give his offense the ball.
OSU’s 4th Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 21
Cowboys can’t take advantage. Another three-and-out.
OSU does down punt at 1-yard line. Is that the Pokes’ version of a win?
Tech’s 4th Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 21
After a targeting call on Parker Robertson gets overturned, Will Hammond fumbled it. The ball just slipped out of his hand and Taje McCoy picked it up and return it 16 yards.
Pokes take over at their own 46, the best starting field position so far.
OSU’s 3rd Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 21
A Trent Howland wildcat play was the highlight of that drive. It ends with a bleh throw into double coverage, behind the line of scrimmage, for Jackson.
Update: The Pokes attempt a fake punt but get called for illegal formation. So now, no punt. You just give Tech the ball at midfield.
End of Q1: OSU 0, TTU 21
You couldn’t have scripted a worst start for the Cowboys. A pair of special teams plays set up the Pokes to be down 13-0 just two minutes into the game.
The Pokes’ defense made an effort at slowing things down but got run over on the last drive. The rout appears to be on, unless the Cowboys can muster more than two first downs in the next quarter.
Tech’s 3rd Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 21
The Cowboys backed up the Raiders to a third-and-11 back at their own 42 but Will Hammond found Reggie Virgil for a 24-yard connection. The Raiders marched down the field and scored. THey threw in two-point conversion to get it back to 21 after the missed PAT.
OSU’s 3rd Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 13
The Pokes do get a first down on a Gavin Freeman 15-yard catch-and-run but the drive stalls after Sam Jackson gets flushed out of the pocked on consecutive plays. This Tech front is as advertised.
Tech’s 2nd Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 13
I stand corrected.
Cowboys force their own three-and-out.
OSU’s 2nd Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 13
The Cowboys go three-and-out. Good. Don’t want your defense to get too rusty sitting on the bench against Tech’s offense.
Tech’s 1st (actual) Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 13
One play. One player.
J’Koby Williams is the only Red Raider to carry the ball. Two plays, two touchdowns. No-go on the extra point.
OSU’s 1st Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 7
Welp, starting out in a hole, Sam Jackson V gets the start.
It looked like the Pokes were going to go for it on fourth-and-1 at their own 39 but a late change brought out the punt unit, a sensible decision. That paid off well. The punt was blocked and returned to the OSU 26.
Tech’s 1st Drive: Oklahoma State 0, Texas Tech 7
Well, that was quick.
Tech running back J’Koby Williams took the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. The Cowboys won the toss and asked for that.
The Cowboys are in Lubbock to face a Top 15 Tech team that’s a little pissed off. That might not go too well for OSU.
Oklahoma State is 1-6 (0-4 in Big 12) and hasn’t won an FBS game in … yada yada. It’s dark times in Stilly. On the opposite end of that spectrum is Texas Tech, a serial underperformer historically which has caught fire and stepped into the new age of college football with some swagger. Their positions in relation to each other could be underlined in poetic form with an expected Tech win.
The Cowboys are huge underdogs on the road. They’re lame-duck operators while the Red Raiders are still Big 12 favorites, despite their road loss last week. If the Cowboys do come up short, they’ll be mathematically ruled out for postseason football, while the Raiders expect to be playing for plenty come December.

Injury Report
After running for a career-high 163 yards last weekend, Rodney Fields Jr. is questionable heading into this game, with Dave Hunziker reporting that the redshirt freshman is dealing with a toe injury.
Starting cornerback Kale Smith is out. This will be the second consecutive game he has missed.
Weather Update
Because of a storm in the area, kickoff has been pushed back to 3:30 p.m.
