Morris Signs a Quarterback: Broderick Vehrs Flips from North Texas

New Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris has developed a reputation for finding high-level quarterbacks where others might not be looking, and he’s made his first signing at the position as the Cowboys’ coach.

Broderick Vehrs signed with the Cowboys on Wednesday morning. He was previously committed to North Texas while Morris was the coach.

Vehrs is just the No. 2,148 player in the 247Sports Composite ranking for the 2026 class, but he has helped lead Basha High School to the state finals in Arizona’s Open Division.

Listed at 6-feet tall, Vehrs has thrown for 1,532 yards across 10 games this season, according to MaxPreps. He has 18 passing touchdowns and only three interceptions. Vehrs also looks to be a capable runner with 245 rushing yards on 6.4 yards per carry to go with another two scores. He did all that while missing some time due to injury this year.

Vehrs was at one point committed to Northern Arizona before Morris and North Texas got involved and got him committed this past June. Now, he’ll be a Cowboy — quite the rise.
