Doug Gottlieb Pausing Radio Show To Focus on Coaching Career
Gottlieb is all in on the Phoenix.
On Wednesday night, former Oklahoma State Cowboy and current Green Bay Phoenix head coach Doug Gottlieb announced he would be pausing his national daily radio show to focus on his coaching responsibilities.
“These kids owe a fully dedicated coach,” Gottlieb said. “I know I am fully dedicated, Marcus is like ‘dude it doesn’t matter,’ but you only get one shot at this thing and if there is any ounce of lack of preparation or any ounce of fatigue or this is going to sound crazy, but last week we go down to Indy and because of the timing of my show, the bus had to leave without me and I flew. And I don’t think that is what I want to do as a coach.”
JUST IN: Doug Gottlieb is stepping away from his radio gig to focus on being a full-time division one head basketball coach for UW-Green Bay. He will still be doing the podcast.

Gottlieb wasn’t shy about wanting the OSU men’s basketball job each of the last three times it came open. When that didn’t work out last year, Gottlieb took over the Phoenix.
His first season ended with a 4-28 overall record. Gottlieb’s announcement during the postgame press conference following Wednesday night’s 67-64 win over UC-Santa Barbara (8-4) actually comes during a bit of an upswing.
Green Bay is 6-7 overall, but has won five of its last seven. And one of the losses came by only two points.
“The Doug Gotlieb Show on radio in the afternoon as of now we are going to take a break from it,” he said. “I got to have a life, I got to be here for those kids, and I got to really dig in because we are building something really cool here.”
Gottlieb clarified that he would still record a podcast and thanked media partner iHeart Radio for its support.
“It will still be the same stuff, but I’ll do it off office hours and at home,” Gottlieb said. “And you can take days off, and I can have a life. But you know, Thanksgiving I had all three of my kids in town and I had to work on a Friday because I wanted to bank those holiday days for when we travel or game prep or whatever, and I just, it is really hard. It is going to be obviously a bit of a financial hit, and I will work through it. I’ve been blessed beyond all measure.”
