Hoops Preview: TV Info, Team Stats and Projected Lineups before the Cowgirls Face Colorado on the Road
Can the Cowgirls keep up their hot streak on the road?
The Cowgirls have been off a week but hope to remain hot when they head to Boulder on Sunday.
Oklahoma State (15-4, 5-2) travels to Colorado (12-7, 3-4) for a Sunday afternoon matchup (weather permitting) to try to extend its Big 12 win streak to four. The Buffaloes, on the other hand, have dropped three of their last four, including the game that began the Cowgirls’ streak in Stillwater on Jan. 11. Let’s take a look at some of the trends coming into Sunday’s game.
Trending Up 📈: Stailee Heard’s slump is officially in the history books. The All-American followed up three-straight 20-point outings with her first career triple-double (18-17-10). It’s no surprise that the Pokes are winning when their best player is asserting herself. It took some time for her to figure out how she meshed with a lot of the incoming wing talent Jacie Hoyt brought in this offseason, but Heard and the Cowgirls may be figuring it out just in time.
Trending Down 📉: After starting 2-1 in league play, the Buffaloes have gone 1-3 with that lone win coming over Iowa State, who the Cowgirls beat as part of five consecutive losses. Much like they showed in Stillwater a couple weeks ago, the Buffaloes are tough on the defensive end but struggle to get into rhythm offensively and don’t have many of those go-to scorers. It makes one appreciate the embarrassment of riches that Hoyt has assembled.
Tough Slatin’ in the Big 12: The Cowgirls are currently projected as a 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament should the season end today, but they’ve got a lot of work left to do.
They are one game back from second place in the conference with a stretch that begins Sunday of six opponents below them in the league standings. Granted, those are far from gimmes. Nine of the Big 12’s 16 teams are above .500 in conference play. But OSU’s schedule is backloaded with four of their last five either currently tied with the Cowgirls or higher.
Here is what you need to know going into the Cowgirls’ and Buffaloes’ Sunday matchup.
