Conference-USA Defensive Player of the Year Kashie Natt Commits to Oklahoma State
Portal pickup No. 2 is a defensive standout.
The Cowboys’ journey to being a better defensive team next season took a big step forward Tuesday.
Kashie Natt, the reigning Conference-USA Defensive Player of the Year, committed to Oklahoma State, according to The Field of 68. In his first season at the Division-I level, Natt averaged 10.8 points, 8.2 boards, 2.4 assists, two steals and 1.1 blocks a game for Sam Houston this past season.
Natt is a 6-foot-3 guard who hails from Rayville, Louisiana. He led Conference-USA in steals (69) and finished second in total rebounds (278). According to KenPom, Natt’s steal percentage ranked 20th nationally while his defensive rebound percentage ranked 54th nationally.
Prior to playing at Sam Houston this past season, Natt spent three years at NAIA LSU-Alexandria. He averaged 20.3 points and 10.3 boards a game in his final season with that program and averaged 27.9 points and 9.3 rebounds a game through 82 games in those three seasons.
Natt had nine double-doubles in his 34 games as a Bearkat. He had 18 points, 13 boards, six assists and five steals in a game against Florida International. He also had a 17-point, 16-rebound game against New Mexico State.
When Natt entered the portal, he was still seeking an extra year of eligibility, and, according to The Field of 68, entered with a “Do Not Contact” tag.
Natt becomes the second commitment of the transfer portal window, joining North Carolina’s Luke Bogavac. The Cowboys will have to keep the portal pledges coming as they could need as many as nine players out of the transfer portal during this window.
