Spring Schedule Preview: Arizona State

The Cowboys’ final road game will take place in the desert against a team that also brought in a lot of transfer talent this offseason.

Week 11: Arizona State | Nov. 21 | Tempe, Arizona

Series history: 3-3

Last meeting: Arizona State took the Big 12 by storm in 2024, and OSU was no exception. In their first season in the league, the Sun Devils went 7-2 in the league and finished with 11 wins for the first time in nearly three decades.

The Cowboys hosted then-No. 7 ASU in early November two seasons ago and got smacked around 42-21. Cam Skattebo had 274 yards from scrimmage and three total touchdowns, including TD catches of 36 and 50 yards.

Arizona State in 2025: The Sun Devils took a step back without some of their key playmakers, as Skattebo was a rookie for the New York Giants last year. Arizona State finished 8-5 with a Sun Bowl loss to Duke.

Arizona State in 2026: The Sun Devils had a nice portal haul this offseason. Arizona State ranks 15th in transfer portal rankings according to 247Sports, behind only OSU and Texas Tech in the conference. They brought in a pair of QBs with starting experience in Cutter Boley (Kentucky) and Mikey Keene, who started at UCF and Fresno State and last played at Michigan.

Add in trio of like wideouts that had started multiple games in Omarion Miller (Colorado), Raiden Vines-Bright (Washington) and Reed Harris (Boston College), and the Sun Devils offense has a chance to be more explosive

Of note: With all the coaching turnover in the Big 12, the median tenure coming into 2026 is less than three years. That puts ASU’s fourth-year head coach in the camp of seasoned vets.

But after going 22-17 including an 11-win season, Kenny Dillingham is considered a hot coaching commodity. After being included in the rumor mill for the Michigan job which ultimately went to former Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham, Sun Devil fans are back to being excited about a Dillingham-led squad.
