Ruby Meylan hasn’t cooled off going into the final weekend of the regular season.

Oklahoma State beat Tulsa 5-0 on Wednesday night in Cowgirl Stadium. Meylan was excellent again, throwing the complete game in 98 pitches while giving up one hit, walking four and striking out nine.

It was a stalemate going into the bottom of the fourth when redshirt freshman Madison Hoffman hit a three-run shot to center. The clutch hit came on the first pitch of her at-bat with two outs.

Hoffman returned to the plate in the sixth and added to the lead she gave the No. 13 Cowgirls. She hit an RBI triple down the right-field line to make it 4-0.

Hoffman missed last season with an injury but has started to step into the spotlight of late.

She had a big homer to give the Cowgirls some insurance last week in OSU’s win against No. 6 Texas. After going 2-for-3 at the plate Wednesday, she’s 7-for-16 (.438) this season.

Freshman shortstop Aubrey Jones brought Hoffman home on the next at-bat with a single.

The only trouble Meylan found herself in came in the third when Tulsa loaded the bases with one out thanks to three walks. But then Meylan got a force out at home and a groundout to end the inning. She’d give up one base runner the rest of the game.

The Cowgirls are 35-13 entering this weekend’s regular season finale against Kansas. OSU hosts the Jayhawks in a three-game series, starting at 6 p.m. Friday.

OSU and KU enter the weekend at third and fourth, respectively, in the Big 12 standings. Texas Tech is going to win the league’s regular season title. The difference in third and fourth is a would-be semifinal against the Red Raiders in the Big 12 Tournament.
