Cowboy Golf: Oklahoma State Drops NCAA Semifinal Match Against Auburn, Ending Season

The Cowboys’ season finishes two matches shy of repeating as NCAA champs.

Oklahoma State dropped its NCAA semifinal match against Auburn on Tuesday evening in Carlsbad, California, ending the Pokes’ season. The Cowboys were unable to secure a point against the hot-playing Tigers.

The Cowboys entered the NCAA Championships ranked fifth nationally and had a Top 4 finish.

Auburn advances to Wednesday’s final against UCLA. Should the Tigers win, they’d join the 2018 Cowboys as the only teams to win the stroke-play portion and the match-play tournament at the NCAA Championships.

Although the Cowboys were unable to secure their 13th national title this season, they did win four other tournaments this schools year — the Fighting Illini Invitational, the Cabo Collegiate, the Maridoe Intercollegiate and the Big 12 Championship.

The five-man lineup the Cowboys used for the past two NCAA Championships could all return next season, as none are seniors. Now it’ll just be a question of whether anyone would transfer or look to start their professional careers.
