Chris Barnes Named to Jet Award Watch List, Given to Top Return Specialist
The Cowboys’ new speedster is already getting some national attention.
The Cowboys have had some electric return men over the years, but one incoming speedster is on the radar for award that has eluded all of them.
Oklahoma State wide receiver Chris Barnes was named to the watch list for The Jet Award, given annually to the top return specialist in the nation. The award has been around since 2011 with past winners including the likes of Tavon Austin, Tyler Lockett and Christian McCaffrey.
The Pokes have had some lethal returners in those last 15 years who have not been in contention for this honor, a fact which should stoke the excitement around Barnes even more.
Barnes came in as part of the huge transfer portal class heading into Eric Morris’ first year at OSU and got fans talking this spring.
As a redshirt freshman for Wake Forest last year, Barnes returned seven kicks for 263 yards and a score. He was also the Demon Deacons’ No. 2 wide receiver, reeling in 39 catches for 547 yards and three touchdowns and he rushed 13 times for 143 yards.
He’s the type of guy you want to get the ball in space which was instantly evident at OSU’s Spring Game. His first time suiting up for fans at BPS, Barnes caught four passes for 141 yards, including a dazzling 97-yard touchdown on the sideline.
The Jet Award is named in honor of former Heisman winner Johnny “The Jet” Rodgers and will be voted on by a panel that includes media members, former winners and the award’s founders. It will be presented during the Jet Award Gala on April 8, 2027.
