NFL Training Camp Roundup: Mason Rudolph ‘Impressing’ New Head Coach, Jaylen Warren Projected to Return as Starter

With the NFL preseason getting underway this week, let’s take a look at around the league to see how former Cowboys are faring.

Steel City = Cowboy Central

There has long been an OSU contingent in the Steelers organization, but there’s a decent chance we see a pair of Cowboys controlling the backfield at some point this season.

Jaylen Warren the Steelers Top Back

Warren has done nothing but impress in his four seasons in Pittsburgh. He’s coming off a career-best 958 yards and six touchdowns after starting 15 games last season.

Mason Rudolph has also impressed his new head coach and seems to be on the way to locking up the QB2 role behind an aging Aaron Rodgers. As Rudolph has learned in the past behind Ben Roethlisberger, he’s just one turned ankle from leading the offense.

And it looks like there’s a solid gap between he and the rest of the QB pool.

Per sources, the #Steelers plan to trade Will Howard following the preseason.

If there are no suitors, they will plan to stash him on the practice squad.

Tylan Working on Earning a Spot in The Land

Although he had a handful of eye-popping plays that endeared him to Ravens fans, Tylan Wallace was never quite able to secure a breakout role in Baltimore. But now he’s landed and Cleveland and appears to be taking advantage of his clean slate.

Wallace is currently projected as second-string wide receiver according to Ourlads, competing for targets behind the likes of Jerry Jeudy and touted rookies KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston.

Ollie Gordon Could be an Every-Down Back

Ollie Gordon had his ups and downs with the last coaching regime in Miami, but he appears to have a fresh start and a vote of confidence from his new head coach.

Jeff Hafley says he wants to see Ollie Gordon compete to be an “every down back”:

He finished his rookie season with 70 carries for 199 yards and three touchdowns.

Chuba Involved in a Practice Scuffle

The veteran Panthers running back got in a dust up with teammate defensive tackle Bobby Brown III last week. Whether it was just a case of heightened tensions after a few weeks of practice or what, it sounds like it was Chuba who boiled over. He apparently threw a punch at Brown and threw the helmet of his 6-4, 332-pound teammate.

Hubbard saw his carries drop off with the emergence of second-year back Jonathon Brooks last season. He’s still the projected starter for 2026 but saw his production cut in half in 2025 after rushing for 1,195 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2024.

Tyler Lacy Gets a Shoutout

There’s another former Cowboy defender making a name for himself in Motor City.

Tyler Lacy may be one of the most important under-the-radar players on Detroit’s defense.

After spending two years in Jacksonville, Lacy landed in Detroit ahead of last season and made four starts for the Lions. At this rate, he could be in for an increased role.
