Eric Morris Provides Injury Update Following Oklahoma State’s Shutout Win Against Murray State

STILLWATER — Saturday was a good day for Cowboy starters to get a little work in and then let the young guys take over.

Oklahoma State was also without a few contributors during Saturday’s 59-0 victory against Murray State.

Wide receiver Chris Barnes went through warmups but didn’t play in the game. He went down with an apparent shoulder injury in the Cowboys’ win against Oregon last week. After Saturday’s game, Morris called Barnes a “game-time decision” and said that he did practice this past week.

In his place, sophomore Terrence Lewis got some more run, and he made the most of it. Lewis caught two passes for 49 yards and his first touchdown as a Cowboy.

Other guys on the two-deep who didn’t play were offensive lineman Joseph Hanson, tight end Oscar Hammond, defensive tackle Iman Oates and defensive tackle Braylon Rigsby.

On Tuesday, Morris said Hammond has returned to practice. He hasn’t played as a Cowboy yet after missing all of last season and the beginning of this season with injury. The last time Hammond has played came under Morris at UNT in 2024, where the Collinsville alum was the Mean Green’s lead tight end, catching 19 balls for 238 yards and a touchdown.

Oates and Hanson both went down in the Oregon game.

Morris said Tuesday that Oates was mad they wouldn’t let him go back into the Oregon game, so that would lead us to believe him missing Saturday’s game was more precautionary than anything. The Cowboys defense managed without him against Murray State, holding the Racers to 3.3 yards a carry on 23 attempts.

A Coastal Carolina transfer, Hanson was the second starting offensive lineman to go down, joining Jacob Sexton. In his place, the Cowboys moved Johnny Dickson III from left guard to right guard and had Desmond Magiya slot in on the left side.

But it sounds as if both Oates and Hanson are trending to return soon.

“I think both of those guys should be up practicing next week,” Morris said. “Obviously they’ll have to prove throughout the week that they can manage a game load, and we’ll have to make a decision later in the week.”
