It sort of feels like a weekend of potential trap games in college football. Could it get more chaotic than last week?
Here is a look at the Big 12 slate for Week 8 and some other anticipated matchups from around the country.
Big 12 Schedule
No. 8 Texas Tech (6-0) at Cincinnati (4-2) — 11 a.m. Saturday on FS1
West Virginia (4-3) at TCU (3-3) — 11 a.m. Saturday on ESPN2
Baylor (4-2) at Kansas (2-4) — 12 p.m. Saturday on TNT
No. 2 BYU (6-0) at UCF (3-3) — 2:30 p.m. Saturday on FOX
Kansas State (4-2) at Arizona State (3-3) — 2:45 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2
Colorado (2-4) at Oklahoma State (4-2) — 6 p.m. Saturday on FS1
Iowa State (3-3) at No. 25 Arizona (5-1) — 6:30 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2
No. 14 Houston (6-1) at No. 10 Utah (6-0) — 9:15 p.m. Saturday on ESPN
Houston-Utah: Fresh off a meaningful game against Oklahoma State, Houston hits the road for Utah this week for another game with massive Big 12 title implications.
This is the Utes’ first true test of the season. Their best win is probably a 31-17 result in Ames. Houston, meanwhile, has already played Texas Tech and Oklahoma State.
A Cougar win drags the Utes into the one-loss moshpit with Houston, OSU and Arizona. A Ute win keeps the home team on a much clearer path to Arlington.
WVU-TCU: This game doesn’t impact the Big 12 title race, but it could be the deciding factor on whether each of these squads go bowling.
The Mountaineers finally came out on the right end of a shootout last week, when they beat Cincinnati 45-42. Through WVU’s four Big 12 games to this point, 322 total points have been scored.
TCU got its first win of the season by upsetting rival Baylor 17-6. The Horned Frogs are averaging just 13.3 points a game in Big 12 play. Can they keep up with West Virginia?
Trap Game in Orlando?: BYU is coming off a rather emotional win, and UCF has been playing everybody close. Is an upset brewing?
It’s a spot OSU fans are unfortunately familiar with. After the Cowboys won the final Bedlam in 2023, OSU went to Orlando and lost 45-13 the next week.
Other Games to Watch
No. 18 LSU (5-2) at Auburn (4-2) — 11 a.m. Saturday on ABC
No. 11 Tennessee (6-1) at South Carolina (3-3) — 2:30 p.m. Saturday on ESPN
No. 7 Ole Miss (5-1) at No. 19 Texas (4-2) — 6:30 p.m. Saturday on ABC
No. 16 USC (6-1) at Wisconsin (4-2) — 6:30 p.m. Saturday on NBC
North Dakota State (6-1) at New Mexico (5-1) — 9 p.m. Saturday on CW
Honestly not a ton of games to throw up on the marquee, but that’s usually when chaos ensues.
LSU-Auburn: In a battle of Tigers, Auburn returns home after upsetting No. 1 Georgia in Athens last week. Meanwhile, LSU hasn’t won on the road this season.
Tennessee-South Carolina: After starting 0-3 in the SEC, South Carolina got a big road win against Florida and now returns home to welcome another ranked team. Tennessee travels to Columbia after an emotional win against Alabama this past weekend in what can be another letdown spot.
Ole Miss-Texas: The Longhorns are on the mat, and the referee is counting. Will they get up? Once the No. 1 team in the country, Texas has lost two in a row and welcome Trinidad Chambliss to Austin this weekend. The Rebels are coming off a dominant win against Missouri.
USC-Wisconsin: This game might not look all that sexy, but the Trojans are having to go to all the way Madison at night in late October. And the Badgers’ two losses this season are to Notre Dame and UCLA — two teams currently ranked in the top 10.
NDSU-New Mexico: A fun game in the G6 takes place in Albuquerque, as the Lobos welcome North Dakota State. New Mexico’s one loss this year is a 14-6 defeat in Norman. The Lobos have outscored everyone else a combined 171-39. In its first year in the FBS, North Dakota State is 6-1 with its only loss being 13-7 on the road against UNLV. The Bison have outscored everyone else 199-66.
