The Cowboys are in Manhattan this weekend for an early kickoff against the Wildcats.
Oklahoma State is fresh off a heartbreaking loss to Iowa State on the road which set them back to 3-2 in Big 12 play.
K-State is coming off its own last-minute letdown after falling at Colorado in overtime. The Wildcats are just 1-4 in conference play.
Let’s take a look at the particulars of these two programs’ long history followed by some of the more significant meetings between these two squads.
Capsule
Overall record: OSU leads 43-26
Neutral site meetings: N/A
Meetings in Stillwater: OSU leads 24-10
Meetings in Manhattan: OSU leads 19-16
Past 10 meetings: Tied 5-5
First meeting (1917): KSU defeated OSU 23-0 (Manhattan)
Most recent meeting (2025): KSU defeated OSU 14-6 (Stillwater)
Both programs are in Year 1 under a new coaching regime. Eric Morris came in after two plus decades of Mike Gundy’s tenure in Stillwater. But like OSU did back in 2005, K-State brought its own former All-American QB alum in to right the ship this offseason.
To thank point, Klein played the Cowboys three times, losing the first two in 2010 and 2011 and winning the last in 2012. But since he didn’t throw a pass in 2010, only rushing for three yards, will say he went 1-1 against the Pokes.
In 2011, the No. 17 Wildcats fell to a red-hot No. 3 Cowboys squad in Stillwater. OSU got the 52-45 win, but the Wildcats played Pokes the closest of any team since six games prior when OSU beat No. 8 Texas A&M 30-29.
In fact, Klein ran for a 12-yard touchdown with 3:18 left to tie it at 45-all, but Joseph Randle scored the go-ahead TD from 23 yards with 2:18 remaining and the Pokes would hold on. OSU obviously went on to win 12 games and get this close to a BCS title game.
Klein threw for 231 yards and one touchdown and one interception but added 144 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Brandon Weeden went the more traditional QB route, throwing for 502 yards and four scores, but had two INTs.
Then in his senior year in 2012, Klein got some payback at home. No. 3 K-State defeated unranked OSU 44-30 in game that saw Clint Chelf and Wes Lunt share snaps. Klein threw for 245 yards but no scores or interceptions but did rush for 64 yards and a score. He was what the quintessential K-State QB archetype.
Kansas State [insert Big 12 team] has had the upper hand of late. OSU dropped the last two to K-State, a 14-6 loss in Stillwater last year in Stillwater and 42-20 in 2024 in the Little Apple. But before that, the Cowboys had would four of five, including three-straight from 2019-21.
The longest streaks for each team in the series were 11-straight for OSU from 1947 to 1962, and nine-straight to Kansas State from 1990 to 2002. The Cowboys did immediately precede that last streak with six-straight wins from 1984 to 1989.
A win for the Cowboys in Manhattan will keep them from losing three-straight against the Wildcats for the first time since that 2002 season mentioned above.
The Cowboys and Wildcats kick of at 12 p.m. Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
