Six Stunning Stats From Oklahoma State’s 30-27 Win over Texas
OSU’s win over Texas was somehow both wildly underwhelming and incredibly historic. We’ve already taken a look at some of the more frustrating parts so I thought I’d cheer you up with a couple of stunning stats from Saturday in Austin.
1. Last loss in Austin
If OSU and Texas play on this same date in Austin in 2017, it will have been 3,258 days since Texas last beat Oklahoma State at home. That’s unbelievable.
2. Haskell, eh?
Even more so, Texas’ football records go back to 1902. In that span, only three teams have won four straight in Austin (no team has won five).
Haskell (1902-1905)
Notre Dame (1913-1996)
Oklahoma State (2010-2015)
3. Mason Rudolph’s history
Maso Rudolph became the first OSU QB since 1945 to win games at OU and at Texas in his career. Not Brandon Weeden. Not Zac Robinson. Not Josh Fields. Not Mike Gundy. Not Clint Chelf (although it should have been).
Only Mason Rudolph.
4. Turnover margin usually spells doom
Saturday was Mike Gundy’s 132nd game as the head coach at Oklahoma State. Previously, OSU had been 3-8 when turning the ball over three or more times and creating one or fewer on D. And those wins were against Houston, Sam Houston and Colorado.
5. Gundy’s 50th conference win
How about this … Mike Gundy now has more conference wins than every other coach in OSU history has total wins except for Pat Jones and Jim Lookabaugh. No other OSU coach has ever won more than 30 conference games.
6. Texas stalled out
Texas gained two yards in the final 17 minutes of the game. That’s unbelievable. Your thoughts on Texas’ effectiveness in the 4th quarter, Glenn?
