Rickie Fowler Rocks Pink and Yellow Cleats, Shoots 72 at Players
Rickie Fowler is wearing his (now) traditional joggers along with some, um, colorful golf spikes as he tries to defend his Players Championship this week at TPC Sawgrass.
Fowler got off to a poor start on Thursday with an even-par 72. Why is that poor? Well, he currently sits outside the cut line at this year’s tournament. Scores were super low on Thursday, and Fowler was not.
Nice shot on 17 for @RickieFowler.
He had three better on Sunday last year, though. https://t.co/7bBaYjKn5x

He actually had it going pretty good before making bogey at No. 14 and double at No. 18 for the 72. Fowler didn’t sound too disappointed with his performance.
“It’s been good,” said Fowler. “Probably felt better coming into this than any other Players. Confident with the game, feeling confident with this golf course the way I played last year. [I was] definitely looking forward to this week, not exactly the start I wanted, but not terrible.”
He did however make a statement with his wardrobe (which was outrageous, even for him). Fowler went Johnny Cash all black replete with joggers and some, uh, colorful shoes.
Here’s a closer look at the joggers and spikes.
And here’s a pretty good comp.
I knew I had seen Fowler's shoes somewhere before pic.twitter.com/g6zHBYX32L

Johnny Miller called them “the wildest shoes in the history of the PGA Tour.” I hate myself for saying this and I hope my kids never see it but ….
*whispers softly*
I kind of like them.
Fowler will have a good deal of work to do on Friday to make the cut. He’s currently nine back of leader Jason Day.
