Del Rio Preps for Elite 11
The famous Elite 11 competition starts today in SoCal and a future OSU quarterback will be in attendance.
The irony is the Luke Del Rio, the kid who grew up climbing the interior walls of NFL complexes and drawing in crayon on NFL playbooks, had to go through multiple rounds of qualifying to get to this famed camp.
Here’s what Jordan Conn wrote about him recently in ESPN the Magazine:
He just missed an automatic invitation to the finals [the one today] that went to the nation’s No. 4 QB, Michigan commit Shane Morris. But Del Rio impressed the selection committee with his touch, release and composure, earning one of 19 at-large bids.
Tom Luginbill also wrote about him today on ESPN Insider (if you have access, check out the full article) and here’s what he said about the future OSU signal-caller:
The son of former NFL player and Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio, Luke has a tremendous pedigree and received special advantages growing up in the game. (As the son of a college and pro football coach, trust me, I know.)
His attendance at the Elite 11 regional camps put him on the radar. On tape, he handles pressure well, can keep his eyes downfield under duress and get the ball out.
He can be quirky in his methods, particularly with his release, and his size and athleticism are adequate, but we would expect him to be ahead of the curve in the meeting room.
Counselors at the camp include Matt Barkley of USC, Garrett Gilbert of SMU, Mike Glennon of NC State, E.J. Manuel of Florida State, Aaron Murray of Georgia and Geno Smith of West Virginia.
