Could We See Markel Brown With Golden State Next Year?
The Bay Area area already took Oklahoma’s heart and now it wants more than that. It’s going to be devastating enough to watch KD hoist a trophy for Golden State next year, a former Oklahoma State Cowboy might be coming with him.
Zach Harper of CBS opines on which veteran-minimum free agents the Dubs could be targeting to round out their thin roster.
Golden State won 73 games last year both because it was front-loaded with stars and because its back end was filled out with players like Speights and Barbosa, both of whom didn’t just eat minutes, but were actually capable of carrying the second unit for small stretches. You’d have to assume the Warriors will look to fill these spots with perimeter players, given their small-ball tendencies and diminished depth at the 2 and 3 spots with the departures of Barnes, Barbosa and Rush.
Enter No. 22.
Markel Brown would be the cheap, young option for a team hoping to develop another Ian Clark-level rotation player. Maybe he’s someone you can plug him in with main rotation players when Steve Kerr is feeling squirrely with his lineup decisions. Mostly, you’re trying to turn a potential scrap heap guy into a valuable weapon of some type in short bursts. What they’d be getting in Brown is a crazy athlete with the potential to be a plus defender as they work on that jumper.
Are they going to take Le’Bryan too? Might as well just trade for Tony Allen and Marcus Smart as well. Just take it all, Golden State, just take it all.
