Ben Grogan Says OSU Scoring Record Is ‘Great Honor’
Ben Grogan is now the all-time scoring leader in Oklahoma State football history. More points than Barry Sanders. More than Thurman Thomas. More than Dan Bailey. Nobody has ever scored more than Grogan who broke Bailey’s record with a field goal against KU on Saturday.
He talked after the game about why it was so special.
“It’s a pretty great honor to be on that list,” said Grogan. “I looked up to Dan before I even got here just because he was a great kicker. Now I’m up there with him. That’s really cool to me. This is more a long marathon achievement … it’s one of my happier moments here for sure.”
His coach Mike Gundy coached the top two (Grogan and Bailey) and played with two of the other top five scorers in school history (Barry and Thurman).
“I was happy for Ben Grogan, becoming the all-time leading scorer,” said Gundy. “That’s a great accomplishment for him. He’s a great young man, hard-worker, self-motivated. It’s a great team award, because obviously you have to score a lot or be in the position to score a lot for him to break that record.”
