The 11 Best Quotes From Oklahoma State’s Win Over WVU
Mike Gundy waxed poetic about the beauty of Oklahoma State on Saturday after his win over West Virginia, and we all ate it up because that’s what you do when a coach has won 100 times in Stillwater.
Several other folks talked after the game as well — including Dana Holgorsen — and there were some great takeaways.
Gundy on the little stuff
“The most complete game that we’ve played this year. I had mentioned that there were times where each of the three phases played better than the others, and a couple of times this year maybe considerably better than the others. Special teams has been really good for us throughout the year and I thought today our special teams was excellent. Our coverage units were excellent, our punter was excellent.”
Gundy On motivation from WVU defense hype
“The last three times we’ve played them, we’ve had one good game plan offensively. We just weren’t good enough to execute it. The other two times, we’ve won games, but our game plan wasn’t that good. We forced turnovers and we were better on special teams. Our offensive staff and our players took it personally, and our defense did exactly what (it needed to do). That’s not something I talk about directly, but I do see it from afar.”
Gundy On creating turnovers
“What they’ve done is they’ve practiced, with fumble recoveries and interceptions, blocking in front of the returner, not away from the play, because that’s an automatic 15-yard penalty even if it’s legal, and not blocking below the waist. The time that we’ve put into it and the players’ ability to focus and absorb that information has paid great dividends for us, and today was a good example.”
Gundy On Former Players coming back
“I saw D’Juan Woods in the locker room. D’Juan lives in Los Angeles now and he came all the way back here for homecoming. That means a lot to us and it should mean a lot to the coaching staff because it means the players want to come back. You want to play the best you can, but it’s never a guarantee. It’s nice to beat a team that’s ranked 10th in the country on the same day for everybody involved.”
Mike Yurcich on Chris Lacy and other unknown WRs making plays
“With everything that’s happened with us and (Marcell) Ateman in the offseason it’s great to see guys step up because any time there is adversity there’s opportunity.”
Jordan Sterns on the importance of No. 1oo
“It was fun. It was definitely a historic moment for coach and the university. It was important for him. We came out and played one of our better games, in all aspects. It all came together. It feels good to get that win for him and to beat an undefeated team on homecoming. It means a lot.”
Ramon Richards on his pick
“Well, I dropped my first one so I just kept thinking, it has to come back to me, and it came back. When I got the ball, I thought about high school. I played quarterback so I thought to myself, I have to score.”
WVU Defensive Coordinator Tony Gibson
“Their offense was better than our defense. Their defense was better than our offense. Their special teams were better than our special teams. They were the better team today.”
DL Noble Nwachukwu on Rudolph
“It’s very difficult. I think their quarterback did a good job of getting the ball out and getting it out quick. We were trying to put pressure on him, but the pressure never quite got there.”
Chris Lacy on No. 100
“Coach Gundy came in here and turned this program around. It feels great to be a part of his 100th win.”
Chris Lacy on Gundy dancing
“Somebody needs to teach him some new dance moves.” [NewsOK]
