Bedlam is massive in Oklahoma

Berry Tramel writes about the importance of this game to the state of Oklahoma.

Bedlam football 2016 means little nationally. Across America, its relevance rests on who will play in the Sugar Bowl and who will play in the Alamo Bowl. But we don’t live in the corners of the country or along the coasts. We don’t live down South or by the Great Lakes. We live in Oklahoma. Consolation game? No way. Not here. [NewsOK]

Inside the Coordinators’ heads

The game of cat and mouse between these two should be quite interesting. Riley is always looking to find ways to get his various skill players at advantage while Spencer is always disguising where his weaknesses will be and mixing and matching between coverage-oriented calls like Tampa-2 and run-stopping calls like their quarters coverages. He thinks red-zone stops and turnovers will decide the game. I think we all agree.

Fan Mistreatment in Norman?

This is stunning …

OSU graduate and season-ticket holder Robert Dennis, 28, of Tulsa estimates he’s attended 40 OU games over the years and said he’s had mostly “terrific” experiences. Except for Bedlam.

“I’ve been to several Bedlam games in Norman and had terrible fan experiences each time,” Dennis said. “I will not go back wearing orange. My mom got ice cream in her hair and down her back in 2003 from the people sitting behind us. One game I had someone slide nachos under my butt as I sat down. I have been spit on twice in my entire life, and both have been Bedlam games in Norman, inside the stadium.” [NewsOK]

Not even sure what to say there. I have a lot of OU friends, and they’re all awesome. I’ve also never been to a game at Owen Field.

Zac Veatch Remembers 2014

This is a great recollection of the last Bedlam in Norman.

Then he saw Rudolph, the then a baby-faced freshman, sprinting from the sideline. He jumped on Veatch, hugged him and yelled. “But he wasn’t yelling anything,” Veatch said. “He was just screaming in my ear as loud as he could. He wasn’t saying anything.” When Rudolph hopped off, Veatch looked around Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium in Norman. “Man, this is crazy,” he said. [O’Colly]

I’m hopeful for a similar story this time around.

Rudolph, the pro prospect

People smarter than me keep touting Mason Rudolph as a NFL QB.

But don’t sleep on Rudolph, who still doesn’t garner the national attention despite two straight years of top-notch production on a throw-for-throw basis. His 91.8 overall grade ranks right behind Mayfield’s, and his ratio of big-time throws to turnover-worthy throws leads all FBS signal-callers. Rudolph has a chance to carry the Oklahoma State passing offense with his downfield throwing and perhaps the nation’s best ability to throw the deep comeback outside the numbers with accuracy. [PFF]

Southwest Flyover

This is pretty cool.

Southwest Airlines announced yesterday that they are planning to fly over Oklahoma Memorial Stadium for the Bedlam game in honor of Mike Winchester.

Winchester, a Southwest employee of 29 years and former punter at Oklahoma under coach Barry Switzer from 1984-1986, was shot and killed two weeks ago in a sniper-style of attack just outside Oklahoma City’s Will Rogers Airport. [LGG]
