Analyzing the AP Poll: Some Voters Still Aren’t Convinced

Yes, the college football playoff poll came out last night. While it is the deciding factor for who has a chance at the national title, it’s still important to understand how the media views Oklahoma State.

Despite the committee, we all know that the playoff is a still a bit of a beauty contest, where being a “blue-blood” goes a long way. Thus, knowing where you stand with the media can go a long way to figuring out how the committee might feel.

In this case, it’s how voters felt after OSU went on the road and beat a ranked West Virginia team.

And while OSU won, voters weren’t terribly impressed. Yes, they added a few more top 10 votes, and most voters moved them up, but there were still some voters that punished the Cowboys for their performance.

The biggest drop came from Mitch Vingle who writes for the Charleston Gazette in Charleston, West Virginia who moved the Cowboys from 8th to 11th… which… yeah I don’t get it either.

OSU wasn’t perfect this weekend, but that doesn’t justify the drop. The only thing I can think is that some voters just liked what they saw from other teams more. Like Washington, who was on a bye week, which they won handily.

This week offers a real opportunity for OSU, one voters won’t be able to scoff at. Let’s just hope that if the Cowboys are victorious, that voters and the playoff committee, reward them appropriately.
