A.J. Green Announces the Passing of His Father, Alvin Green
The former OSU corner lost his father days before the NFL Draft.
A.J. Green’s dreams are days away from coming true, but unfortunately his father won’t be there to see it happen.
On Monday, Green announced his father and namesake, Alvin Green, died. The NFL Draft starts on Thursday, and A.J. is expected to be taken at some point this weekend.

I had the pleasure of talking with Alvin before this past season for a feature I was writing on A.J. He was a proud father. Going into this past season, some of his favorite memories of A.J.’s time at Oklahoma State included A.J. dominating West Virginia in Morgantown as a sophomore. A.J. had two interceptions and 58 return yards in that game.
Alvin also pointed to A.J.’s battle against Baker Mayfield in 2017, when A.J. picked off the future No. 1 pick, and A.J. locking up Texas receiver Collin Johnson in 2018.
A big part of my story on A.J. last fall was him coming back from giving up the game-winning touchdown against Baylor as a junior to batting down a pass in the end zone to upset West Virginia a few weeks later. This quote didn’t make that story, but going back and listening to my interview, I thought it was relevant.
“Even when he was a kid, a small child, he would have championship wins and he would also have heartbreaks,” Alvin said, “and he would bounce right back.”
