With the coaching staff in transition and the early signing period opening Wednesday, the Cowboys’ 2026 recruiting class is in a bit of flux, but the new OSU staff is attempting to flip an in-state product.

Dawson Matthews, a 6-foot-5, 285-pound offensive lineman from Ada, announced an Oklahoma State offer on Tuesday. Matthews has been committed to Memphis since April and also has offers to North Texas (under new OSU coach Eric Morris), Tulsa, Colorado State, FAU and others.

Matthews is the No. 2,099 player in the 247Sports Composite ranking for the 2026 class, which lists him as the No. 29 Okie in the cycle.

Although Matthews is just now getting offered by the Cowboys, he’s taken some trips up to Stillwater, coming this past spring and in the fall of 2024.

And while Matthews has been committed to Memphis for some time now, the Tigers are also going through a coaching change, as Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield took the job at Arkansas this past weekend.

Behind Matthews this season, Ada went 10-2. The Cougars beat Fort Gibson in the first round of the 4A playoffs before dropping their quarterfinal game against Elgin. The Cougars averaged 32.7 points per game while running for 213.2 yards a game, according to MaxPreps.

As of writing, the Cowboys are down to four commits in their 2026 class, as it’s been a busy 48 hours or so with tight end Bryton Niu, offensive lineman Aiden Martin, wide receiver Julius Wilson and defensive back Carter Langenderfer all announcing their decommitments. Wednesday’s signing day could be interesting with all the musical chairs of the coaching carousel coming as these high school prospects are readying to put pen to paper. It’s another example that the NCAA needs to get ahold of the football calendar.
