Against the Spread: Oklahoma State Favored by 37.5 Over McNeese State

Oklahoma State closed as 16.5-point favorites over Oregon State in its Week 1 outing on the west coast … and won by 16. Apologies to those out there who bet on Superior OSU covering the spread.

For those who took my advice last week on betting the over, which closed at 74 — kudos! You’re welcome for the fat wallet. OSU and OSU combined for 88 points. It was the easiest bet of the week. As for this week, things could be complicated. OSU is a 37.5-point favorite over McNeese State according to Odds Shark with an over/under currently sitting at 62.5.

Let’s get to this week’s odds ahead of OSU-McNeese State in OSU’s home-opener.

Against the spread in 2019:

• Oklahoma State: 0-1. If you got the line at OSU -16, you got a push. But if you took OSU over Oregon State with the line at 16.5 … so close.

• McNeese State: 0-0-1. McNeese closed as 6-point favorites over Southern in Week 1, and won by exactly 6.

As an underdog in 2019:

• Oklahoma State: 0-0. OSU probably won’t be a dog until Week 1 of the Big 12 slate, barring something completely insane.

• McNeese State: 0-0. McNeese was an underdog much of last season, but has yet to be pegged a dog (until this week).

Over/under in 2019:

• Oklahoma State: 1-0. OSU more often than not hits the over because A) OSU’s offense puts up points in bunches and B) OSU’s defense tends to also give up points in bunches. We’ll see if that is the case again this week after allowing 36 to Oregon State.

• McNeese State: There wasn’t an over/under line for McNeese-Southern, but I’d be willing to wager that a 34-28 final probably just barely surpassed any imaginary over line out there.

How to bet OSU-McNeese

I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again: Take the over. I was wrong about OSU scoring 69 points in Week 1 against Oregon State, but this week that number feels a little more reasonable. After seeing the defense against the Beavers, I have confidence that the over will hit one way or another.
