Big 12 Update: Oklahoma State Only Team Without Conference Win
The Pokes are alone at the bottom.
There’s only one team in the Big 12 that hasn’t notched a conference win yet: the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
OSU, at 0-4 in Big 12 play and riding a four-game losing streak, started this weekend as one of three teams still needing a conference victory this season. The Cowboys’ 38-35 loss to BYU on Friday night kept them winless in league play, but Baylor and Kansas both got into the win column on Saturday.
Here’s a recap of what else happened throughout the Big 12 this weekend.
Cincinnati 24, Arizona State 14
Cincinnati came out on top in a matchup of who could emerge as a legitimate contender in the Big 12, as both teams are now 5-2. After Arizona State struck first, the Bearcats then scored 24 unanswered to take control.
ASU now gets a week off before trying to disrupt the Cowboys’ homecoming plans on Nov. 2. Cincy will head to Boulder for even an bigger challenge against Colorado.
Kansas 42, Houston 14
Houston was back to being the punching bag of the Big 12 (well, besides OSU). The Jayhawks, in a season full of promise, finally not only got their first Big 12 victory, but also their first win over an FBS team. Both KU and Houston are now 2-5 with one Big 12 win apiece.
Things get tougher for KU next, though, against in-state rival Kansas State on Saturday, while Houston hosts Utah.
Colorado 34, Arizona 7
Even after a loss to Kansas State last week, Colorado proved it’s still a contender in this chaotic conference. The Buffaloes scored the last 20 points of the game to secure this one and improve to 5-2 with Cincinnati next. Arizona, meanwhile, is below .500 now at 3-4 before hosting West Virginia.
Baylor 59, Texas Tech 35
Baylor made sure it wasn’t a matchup of winless Big 12 teams next week in Waco when OSU visits. The Bears scored 28 unanswered in the second half to leave Lubbock with their first conference win. It was Tech’s first Big 12 loss at 5-2.
No. 17 Kansas State 45, West Virginia 18
In a battle of teams that thumped the Cowboys, K-State again did some thumping. At 5-1, the Wildcats are in the midst of a three-way battle between Big 12 favorites along with undefeated Iowa State and BYU, which is responsible for K-State’s only loss.
K-State hosts rival Kansas on Saturday. WVU heads to Arizona.
No. 9 Iowa State 38, UCF 35
The Cyclones needed a touchdown with 30 seconds left to fight off UCF’s upset try and remain undefeated. The Knights, meanwhile, have lost four in a row and things only get tougher next week when they host another undefeated team in BYU. ISU will get a week off before welcoming Texas Tech to Ames.

TCU 13, Utah 7
The Utes haven’t won a football game since beating OSU in Stillwater, having now lost three in a row to drop to 4-3. Utah hasn’t even reached 20 points since that win over the Cowboys. Maybe the Utes can get back in the win column against Houston on Saturday.
TCU, meanwhile, improved to 4-3 after losing to Houston in its last outing two weeks ago. The Horned Frogs host Texas Tech next on Saturday.
