Big 12 Update: Texas Wins a Classic, Kansas Forces Grier into 4 Turnovers
Keeping you abreast of the happenings across the league.
With Texas Tech and TCU off this week, there were only four Big 12 games to update you on in this edition.
Given what has been seen from the first few weeks of conference play, this whole thing could be a crap shoot this season. Here’s a recap of the Big 12 games in Week 6.
Texas 48, Oklahoma 45
In an all-time Red River Showdown, it looked as if Texas was going to blow it before Cameron Dicker hit a game-winning 40-yard field goal in the game’s final seconds.
Those 3 points were all Texas scored in the fourth quarter, as the Sooners roared back from a 45-24 deficit, scoring 21 points in the final frame.

Turnovers were the game’s big deciding factor. The Sooners fumbled twice and had an interception, while the Longhorns didn’t give the ball up once.
Sam Ehlinger scored five total touchdowns (three rushing, two passing). He also had an 8-yard reception, finishing with 394 total yards.
Kyler Murray also had five total touchdowns (four passing, one rushing). He had 396 total yards, but he also threw an interception and gave up a fumble.
Despite the pair of quarterbacks combining for 10 touchdowns, Texas wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey finished with the best QBR. Humphrey threw two passes for 10 yards and a touchdown. Humphrey also caught nine passes for 133 yards and a score.

West Virginia 38, Kansas 22
Yeah, West Virginia won, surprise, surprise.
But holy cow, the Kansas defense picked off Will Grier three times and have a Big 12-leading 11 interceptions. That’s four clear of second-place Texas. All three picks came in the first half and all were in the red zone, so this game should’ve been a lot uglier than the 16-point difference.
Grier also lost a fumble, but despite forcing a Heisman candidate to turn the ball over four times, the Kansas offense is still dooh-dooh. The Jayhawks’ 286 yards of offense were barely half of the 509 West Virginia had. Even freshman running back Pooka Williams struggled, rushing for 65 yards on 12 carries.
With the Oklahoma loss, the Mountaineers are atop the Big 12 with games against Baylor and Iowa State coming up.
Here’s West Virginia defensive lineman Reese Donahue getting engaged at midfield after the game.

Baylor 37, Kansas State 34
Man, Kansas State isn’t good.
The Wildcats were without one of their two quarterbacks against the Bears, as Alex Delton was wearing sweats on the sideline. In what was a chance to end the quarterback battle once and for all, Skylar Thompson threw for 149 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.
It was a big game for K-State running back Alex Barnes, who had a career-high 250 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
In the fourth quarter, the teams’ combined for 37 of the games 71 points.
Baylor quarterback Charlie Brewer completed 30 of his 44 passes for 296 yards and a touchdown. Jalen Hurd caught 11 of those balls for 135 yards.
