Social media was the most popular forum people used to congratulate Eddie Sutton on his induction into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame on Saturday, but plenty of other legendary coaches went the old school route by showing their faces in video form. From Gene Keady to Rick Barnes, Bill Self to Lon Kruger, coaches across the country came together to create a montage of praise for the coach whose impact on the sport was immense.

And almost all of them had beards! Social distancing approved.

“An honor very much deserved and earned,” said OU’s Lon Kruger. “Lot of memories about your teams, how hard they played. But most importantly, they just couldn’t be scored on. Your guys worked so hard, denied every pass. It was an honor to coach against your teams.”

Said Self: “It is an honor that is long overdue. And certainly anybody that has played for you or coached under you knew that you were a Hall of Famer several decades ago.”

Hall of Fame coach Gene Keady, who had a 25-year run at Purdue during Sutton’s heyday, also weighed in to praise Sutton on a tremendous career and an honor well-deserved.
