Breaking Down Oklahoma State’s 2018 Fall Camp Roster
The Cowboys enter their second week of fall camp this week. Shoulder pads finally came on Saturday, and we at PFB thought it’s a good time to take a deeper look at the players in fall camp and those who will join at the start of the semester.
Perhaps the most notable exclusion from actual participation in fall camp is John Kolar. Kolar, a redshirt junior quarterback from Norman, was on the printed roster handed out to media on the opening day of fall camp, but it was noted in stretches that Kolar wasn’t in attendance and walk-on Shaun Taylor, who wasn’t on the printed roster, was in attendance.
Kolar, who is still very much on the team and should join up with everyone once school starts, entered OSU as a four-star recruit and the No. 5 player from Oklahoma, according to 247Sports. He was the 20th ranked quarterback in the country his senior year at Norman North and was ranked ahead of Baltimore Ravens rookie Lamar Jackson.
Taylor, a freshman out of All Saints Episcopal in Fort Worth, threw for 6,641 yards, 79 touchdowns and 15 interceptions across three years in high school.
Defensive tackle Latu Maile was another interesting absence from camp, but it seems he is no longer with the team.
Quick notes from our brief time watching the first #OKState FB practice:
*As expected, DT Latu Maile is no longer with the team;
*QB John Kolar not practicing but still on the team, likely to join them when class begins;
*Dru Brown is wearing No. 6;
*CJ Moore is still skinny.— Scott Wright (@ScottWrightOK) August 2, 2018
Maile is still on the Cowboys’ full, online roster and at some point this summer seemed to be in Stillwater based on his Twitter.
Back in Stillwater, Oklahoma with the team??

By my count, there are 32 players on the online roster that weren’t on the handed-out camp roster, including Maile. Many of these are walk-ons who haven’t arrived at school yet.
Offensive line coach Josh Henson has the longest roll call at camp with 16 offensive linemen on the roster. Other numbers that jump out are the 10 safeties on the roster and nine cornerbacks, a product of new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ 4-2-5 defense.
Per classes on the camp roster there are:
- Freshman – 20 (21 including Shaun Taylor)
- Redshirt freshman – 12
- Sophomore – 4
- Redshirt sophomore – 14
- Junior – 5
- Redshirt junior – 14 (13 excluding Kolar)
- Senior – 5
- Redshirt senior – 13
Here’s a look at the full camp roster that was handed out to media members.
