Wide receiver has been the most heralded position group of the Mike Gundy era, so it isn’t all that often that the phrase “since Dez Bryant” could be used.

Since Dez Bryant, Oklahoma State receivers have won three Biletnikoff awards, with Justin Blackmon winning two, and James Washington taking another home. Since Dez Bryant, there’s been Blackmon, Washington, Tylan Wallace, Tyron Johnson, Marcell Ateman, Dillon Stoner, Josh Stewart, Tracy Moore. However, none of those guys were as highly touted a prospect as Brenen Thompson, a four-star 2022 receiver that OSU has a legitimate shot at.

Thompson visited Stillwater last week along with a good chunk of the Cowboys’ 2022 commits. Out of Spearman, Texas, he is the No. 87 player in the 2022 class.

If he were to commit to OSU, Thompson’s 247 Composite Ranking of 0.9624 would be the highest of any OSU receiver commit since Bryant’s 0.9783 in 2007. Next on the list is Wallace’s 0.9442 in 2017.

Thompson is a speedster at 5-foot-10, 165 pounds. He won the Texas 3A 200-meter dash as a junior this year, covering the ground in 21.27 seconds. He was second in the 100, running a 10.40. He ran a 10.38 at his regional meet.

He uses that speed on the gridiron, but he isn’t just a track guy in cleats. Thompson has good field vision and has shown the ability to win a jump ball or two despite not being 6-feet tall.

OSU’s chance Thompson seem legitimate, but he is going to be a tough get. He also has offers from Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas, USC and others. As mentioned, he has already visited Oklahoma State and still has visits to Oregon and Texas A&M set up for later this month.
