Cade Cunningham is a Finalist for the Naismith Trophy

Cade Cunningham was the Naismith Player of the Year in high school in 2020. Now he has a chance to be the Naismith Player of the Year in college in 2021.

On Friday, Cunningham was included in a list of finalists for the award along with Iowa’s Luka Garza, Illinois’ Ayo Dosunmu and Gonzaga’s Corey Kispert.

It’s just the latest in a week full of honors for Cunningham. He was named a First Team All-American by the Associated Press, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the Sporting News.

Cade swept the Big 12 Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards. He’s a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, given to the nation’s top point guard and the John R. Wooden Award, also give to college basketball’s player of the year. He’s also a finalist for the Wayman Tisdale Freshman of the Year Award.

No Oklahoma State player has ever won the Naismith Trophy, which has been given to the college hoops player of the year annually since 1969.
