Cade Cunningham Named NABC Freshman of the Year
Just give him all of the awards, already.
Isn’t there a default box that they can just check to give Cade all the awards?
Cade Cunningham earned his fifth (!) Freshman of the Year honor on Friday, when the National Association of Basketball Coaches tabbed him as the top rookie in college hoops.
Cade will add that hardware to what should be a pretty large trophy case, along with Freshman of the Year honors from USA Today, The Sporting News, The Athletic and his USWBA Wayman Tisdale award.
He was named the Big 12 Freshman and Player of the Year after leading the league, scoring 20.1 points per game. He’s just the fourth player to earn both in the same season.
Cunningham is Oklahoma State’s 10th consensus All-American, and first since Marcus Smart, after garnering First Team honors from the Associated Press, the NABC, USA Today, the Sporting News, The Athletic and the USBWA.
He joins Bob Kurland (three times) as OSU’s only two consensus First Team All-Americans.
If that’s not enough, there could still be more fanfare to come. Cade is a finalist for the Naismith Trophy and John R. Wooden Award, each given to the sport’s best player and the Bob Cousy Award, to its top point guard.
