Class of 2019 LB Myles Jernigan Commits to Cal Over OSU, Utah

Class of 2019 linebacker prospect Myles Jernigan committed to Cal on Tuesday over Oklahoma State, Utah, and a number of other programs who extended him an offer during his recruiting process.

“I want to thank all the schools who have took a chance on me and given me a chance to play the game that I do love,” he said on Twitter. “Thanks to my family, friends, and coaches for all the support and love through one of the toughest decisions of my life. With that being said … I’m very happy to say I am committed to the University of California Berkeley.”

Jernigan, a South Grand Prairie product who drew in seven scholarship offers from the likes of Cal, Baylor, Houston, OSU, Rice and Utah, is considered a three-star prospect according to 247Sports. He’s a 6-foot-3, 209-pounder who plays primarily on the outside.

OSU already holds a commitment from one outside linebacker in the 2019 class in Na’Drian Dizadare, so losing out on Jernigan isn’t a big blow. But linebacker — particularly someone who can plug the middle of the defense as an inside linebacker — is still a priority for the Pokes in the 2019 cycle.

With Jernigan officially off the board, look for OSU to make a more unified push for Georgia product Kevon Glenn, an inside backer whose stock has taken off this summer. He’s long held an OSU offer, and has been on the radar for quite some time.

If Glenn falls through, looking within the state could also be an option with outside linebacker Zach Marcheselli (TCU commit) or uncommitted pass-rusher Cole Mashburn, who currently plays primarily as an edge-rusher but could fill a role as a linebacker in college.
