Class of 2021 Running Back Jaden Nixon Commits to Oklahoma State

OSU gets a pledge from one of its top Texas targets in the 2021 cycle.

With Chuba Hubbard and LD Brown entering their final season, and with last season’s in-season transfer of Jahmyl Jeter, the 2021 recruiting class figures to be an important one for OSU to reestablish depth at the running back spot.

Step one (potentially of many steps) in that goal accomplished.

On Wednesday the staff landed a commitment from Class of 2021 high school running back Jaden Nixon, a three-star recruit out of Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas.

Nixon is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound speedster who picked OSU over Air Force, Army, Louisiana, Navy and a handful of other small schools. He’s the first commitment for OSU at the position in the class and the third commitment overall, joining linebacker Kolbe Fields, who committed in January, and safety Ty Williams, who committed earlier this week.

Nixon profiles as an LD Brown archetype in that he, like Brown, is a dual-sport athlete who doubles as a track star and may have been overlooked as a football recruit because of his diminutive frame. He’s been clocked at 10.62 in the 100 meter dash and ran a 21.71 in the 200 meter earlier this year.

Last season Nixon gained nearly 1,100 total yards from scrimmage and helped lead Lone Star to a 14-1 record. As a rusher, he gained 821 yards and scored 14 rushing touchdowns, averaging 9.1 yards per carry. He also caught 18 passes for 262 yards and added two scores through the air.

The dynamic offensive ability is a windfall for Oklahoma State as it establishes momentum with respect to its 2021 recruiting class. With his athleticism and speed in the fold it could open up the door for OSU to help lure quarterbacks and other skill talent in the class.
