Have you ever sat and wondered who would win between the 2011 Oklahoma State football team and the 2021 team? (The answer is almost certainly 2011.) Well, someone must’ve had that idea when thinking about the past two OSU golf teams to win national titles.

The Golf Channel is releasing a video at 4 p.m. Friday on its YouTube channel that pins the two national title-winning squads against each other in match play at Oak Tree National.

Viktor Hovland, Matthew Wolff, Austin Eckroat, Sam Stevens, Kristoffer Ventura and Zach Bauchou will represent the 2018 squad.

Preston Stout, Ethan Fang, Eric Lee, Gaven Lane, Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson and John Wild will represent the 2025 team.

That 2018 squad was looked at as an all-time group while it was dominating the college scene, but time has made that group look all the more impressive.

The group has combined for 17 professional wins, and only two of those guys are older than 30. Four of those six are in the Top 200 of the World Golf Ranking. You know it’s a crazy good team when the guy ranked lowest in the OWGR (Wolff) won an individual national title in college.

Hovland is the group’s star to this point in their professional careers, having won seven times on the PGA Tour, including the 2023 Tour Championship.

But these current Cowboys are nothing to sneeze at.

In their title-winning 2024-25 school year, the Pokes won seven tournaments as a team, closing that season by winning the Haskins Award Invitational, the Mountaineer Invitational, the Big 12 Championship, the NCAA Urbana Regional and the NCAA Championships back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back. On top of that, OSU has won four tournaments this school year.

Stout has won three straight individual Big 12 titles to start his college career after winning again at Prairie Dunes last month. He became the first player to ever win three Big 12 individual titles.

This video dropping comes on the day that the NCAA Championships start at the Omni La Costa North Course. The tournament will go on until Wednesday where we’ll find out if the 2025 Cowboys can do something that the 2018 Cowboys couldn’t — go back-to-back.
