The Cowboys suffered a gut-wrenching loss to Oklahoma and are now just hoping things fall right for a chance at redemption in the Big 12 title game. But Bedlam was just one of several ranked-on-ranked matchups that went down this weekend.

Let’s take a look at Saturday’s impact on the polls.

Who Jumped up?

Oklahoma used its Bedlam win and loss by Ohio State to climb right into the top 5 in the AP poll. The Sooners only moved up two spots in the Coaches poll after beating that same poll’s 10th-ranked team on the road.

Who dropped off?

Two Big Ten teams suffered road losses and fell out of the top 10. Ohio State was embarrassed by unranked Iowa in Iowa City behind a four-interception outing by then Heisman hopeful J.T. Barrett. Penn State lost on a walk-off field goal in a game that saw a 3-plus hour weather delay and dropped from 7th to 16th.

Interestingly enough, Oklahoma State only dropped one spot in the AP voting (11 to 12) after its Bedlam loss. The coaches dropped the Pokes from 10 to 15.

Conference Outlook

All the Big 12 carnage. West Virginia knocked Iowa State from 14 to 24 and stepped into the 23rd spot. TCU is back up to No. 8 after its win over Texas.

More importantly, the two teams tied for first (TCU and OU) face off in Norman this weekend and two of the three teams tied for third (OSU, Iowa State) play in Ames. Both of those teams have already played West Virginia, the third second-place team.

Basically, the league might cannibalize itself in over these 2-3 weeks, but Oklahoma is in the driver’s seat if it beats TCU.

Here’s a look at OSU in the polls this year.
