Sixteen years is a long time. If you were born the day after the plane crash, you can get your driver’s license this week. It doesn’t feel like it has been that long, but we remember an event that in so many ways will always shape the way we feel and think about OSU sports.

Brad Underwood wants more good non-con games

Alas, the rivalry is back on, if only for one day, thanks to the Big 12/SEC Challenge. The Hogs visit Gallagher-Iba Arena Saturday for a 3 p.m. tip. And, as always with games like these, the question arises: why not meet more often?

“They’re so close to here, it’s a shame we don’t play every year or create the rivalry,” said Cowboys coach Brad Underwood. “I’d love that. (For) our fans, their fans, it’d be a good deal.” [NewsOK]

Somebody get Underwood’s scheduler in a room with Gundy’s scheduler.

Mike Anderson and Arkansas Preview OSU

Gallagher-Iba Arena only seats about 9,000, so it’s typically a tough environment for opposing teams to play in. Arkansas Head Coach Mike Anderson compares it to the Razorbacks’ former home.

“The fans are right there,” said Anderson. “It’s a tight arena. I think it’s a great place to play basketball. Their fans, they get into it… It’s a close proximity, it’s similar to Barnhill (Arena). If you can imagine Barnhill, it was very similar to that. So, it’s a home court advantage for them, no doubt.” [Fox16]

Not even close on the 9,000, but the point remains. Barnhill is Arkansas’ old fieldhouse mostly used for volleyball now.

Underwood Remembers The 10

One of my favorite things about Travis Ford is that he was always really good about the traditions in Stillwater and RT10 stuff. Sounds like Underwood will be similar.

Underwood, a first-year coach at OSU, is familiar with the tragedy. He worked with Weiberg’s brother Chad at Kansas State. Kyle Keller, who succeeded Underwood at Stephen F. Austin, was an assistant coach at OSU at the time of the crash.

“You talk about impacting lives and changing people’s lives,” Underwood said. “That’s something that is pretty meaningful. It’s a big, big part of our basketball program’s history. To not recognize that would be a travesty. It’s a big weekend, and as long as I’m here, we’re gonna make Remember the Ten a big part of everything our program is about.” [O’Colly]

Trey Cobb Out With An Injury

Not great.

Senior right-hander Trey Cobb is dealing with elbow soreness, coach Josh Holliday told the O’Colly, and will miss at least the Cowboys’ season-opening series against Grand Canyon, which begins Feb. 17 in Phoenix.

“There’s not a lot of detail at this point,” Holliday said. “He’s just going through rehab trying to get back on track. We’ll know more how he feels here in the next couple weeks.” [O’Colly]

Can I retract my Omaha prediction from Thursday?

OSU and NCAA Notes

Great story here on an OSU recruit from Bixby … A PFB fan is selling this autographed Barry Sanders mini helmet … Berry on Jake Spavital returning to Morgantown is awesome (the Holgorsen exchanges!) … I did this too except it wasn’t because I was going to the NFL and it was Thai Cafe in Stillwater … I know who I’m rooting for here … Dez says the Cowboys are the only team that could have beaten ATL.

Omg.

Impressive.
