Baylor’s demise is terrible for the Big 12, says Berry Tramel. “That helps the Sooners and Cowboys in the short term. But in the long term, it could hurt. You are defined by your competition. If no team steps into Baylor’s stead, the Big 12 brand will be hurt. The Big 12 brand needs to be enhanced, not diminished. If Wisconsin falls in the Big Ten pecking order, no big deal. If Auburn stumbles in the SEC, another behemoth moves right in. But if Baylor declines, it’s not automatic that another heavyweight is ready.” [NewsOK]

Is Mike Gundy underrated? Adam Rittenberg of ESPN: “Maybe a little. Has any team benefited more from Texas’ struggles than Oklahoma State? Maybe Baylor. He has lost assistants but typically finds good replacements. [Defensive coordinator] Glenn Spencer is really underrated nationally, in my view. Last year’s team was a bit of a mirage because of the schedule, but Gundy does a solid job.” [ESPN -$]

Hoops News

Jeffrey Carroll on Cam McGriff: “Cam is a freak. When we play pickup, you’ve got to box him out or he will jump over you and dunk the ball. He’s an athletic freak. He’s getting better every day. He’s a dog in the weight room. He’s getting bigger. He’s already pretty big, but he’s going to get bigger and stronger, just an athlete overall.” [Tulsa World]
