Must read from David Ubben here. The old adage says the backup quarterback is the most popular player on campus. It’s true for Walsh this season, but it runs far, far deeper than the usual angst over a starter’s shortcomings. (Sports on Earth)

The 30-second conversation between Mike Gundy and Mason Rudolph that totally changed the trajectory of the Oklahoma State football program. This is a really good article. (NewsOK)

Rudolph on being on ESPN all the time: “It is cool to see that stuff at first. But after a while, it becomes normal. Everybody messes with each other,” he said. “It’s just fun stuff. That’s the way this team is together and enjoys one another.” (NewsOK)

OSU is near 50 percent on third downs this season. Wish I had time to go back and look up how many they have converted on third and more than five while trailing. Feels like 90 percent. (Tulsa World)

Rudolph: “Just knowing how the game’s played at the college level and just the speed. Seeing different looks from so many different teams this year has helped me mature. I think it’s been a fun year. Looking back, it’s been a great run.” (O’Colly)

Raymond Taylor: “Oklahoma State was the only place I wanted to play. I thought about it at some point. But I stuck to what I wanted to do at the beginning.” (ESPN)

This on Mason Rudolph traveling far from home is awesome. Some great journalism today on the Bullets. (ESPN)

Prepping for Baylor

ESPN’s Football Power Index gives Baylor a 62 percent chance to beat Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma. At first glance that may seem extreme, but FPI expects Baylor to be the stronger team going forward. (ESPN)

College football playoff

Joel Klatt says the committee is “cooking the books like Enron.” (PFB)

Berry Tramel says he’s surprised the committee didn’t drop TCU further. Again, what is the point in playing games if you’re just going to go on how a team “looks”? Why not just pick the four teams that “look” best in August? (NewsOK)
