Daily Bullets (Oct. 15): Injustice, Big 12 Playoff Hopes, Almost Spencer Time

Published

on

Good morning. It’s fitting that it’s cold and rainy as we enter a dark, two-week stretch with no OSU football and only a 6-1 Texas team to look forward to on Homecoming. In fact, OSU is now 1-4 in its last five Big 12 home games, and it welcomes two teams that are a combined 11-2 on the year for its final two this year. Not good!

Big 12 Playoff Hopes

Of course in one of the few years OSU won’t sniff the playoffs, the Big 12’s hopes of getting in are way up.

The day could have gone even better for the Big 12. Notre Dame trailed Pittsburgh most the game before surviving 19-14.  And Central Florida survived Memphis 31-30, leaving UCF on the list of mid-major unbeatens (along with Cincinnati and South Florida), although all are longshots to make the four-team playoff.

But if OU, Texas or West Virginia can win out and get to 12-1, their odds of making the playoff have gone up. Of course, the easy part is getting help from all over the country. The hard part is getting to 12-1. [NewsOK]

It’s Almost Time

Robert Allen writes about the potential change OSU could make and why it would take place. He also mentions a tweet from Spencer Sanders’ mom on Saturday (I’ll post that below).

The case for a change to be made doesn’t start on Twitter and with Spencer Sanders’ mother. It starts with the Oklahoma State offense and team. What is clear is something is not working. Fans are right, the easiest position to switch and look to help spark your team is quarterback, if you have a player ready to jump in, knows the offense, has the confidence and that “it” factor that can inspire teammates. Here’s the tweet.

I talked to some people on Sunday, and I think it’s probably going to happen at some point. I haven’t thought that all season up until now, but it feels like the entire thing is turning in Sanders’ direction. More of a question of “when” not “if” at this point. And as badly as I want it to be on Homecoming against Texas, I think the Baylor game makes a lot more sense.

An Injustice

Mark Cooper wrote today about how little Justice Hill is carrying the football so far this season and how perplexing that can be at times.

It adds to an uneven junior year that had so much promise in the preseason.

Hill is averaging 16 carries for 97 yards per game. He has 112 rush attempts, 27 fewer than he did at this point a year ago. The thought in the preseason was he would be the focal point of the offense, but too often he is underutilized. He finished with just 11 carries for 41 yards against Kansas State. He had 12 carries in the loss to Texas Tech earlier this season. [Tulsa World]

OSU and NCAA News

Boynton shook hands and kissed babies in OKC on Sunday evening … Oklahoma State finished fourth at the Big 12 match play event over the weekend … From the “it could be worse!” files … More tide turning toward the SS Sanders … Cool story here about an officiating crew getting ready for Saturday’s game.

This is awesome.

Hmmmm …

The Pac-12 might stink all the way around.

PFT dropping jokes about trinitarian theology I am weak!

Yikes!
