Daily Bullets (Oct. 29): Why Mike Gundy Probably Appreciates the Mona Lisa

Also, Mike Yurcich’s Corndog love and Mike Boynton collected wisdom.

Good morning. Hey Mike, do you think this will be another week filled with frustration over a QB who’s struggling and a team that can’t seem to right the ship?

Yurcich’s Love for Corndog

It’s clear that everyone in the OSU program has an affinity for No. 14, but maybe OC Mike Yurcich most of all.

“He needs to enjoy it a lot,” offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich said. “Moments like these don’t happen a lot in life and he’s a guy that, he’s worked his tail off and it’s moment like these where you’re just really happy for the young man. Somebody asked me how proud I was earlier. I’ve been proud of that kid for a long time now.” [Tulsa World]

Or maybe not OC Mike Yurcich most of all.

How to Score in the Red Zone

This from my dude Ian Boyd on how Texas and OU — finesse teams for the better part of a decade — score in short-yardage situations is both great and timely for Oklahoma State.

Consequently, Texas was one of the most finesse-oriented teams in the country between the five yard lines for two seasons. The name of the game was Colt McCoy executing west coast timing routes from spread formations…up until they had to get nasty to force things. Then they’d bring in the extra linemen, the bigger RBs, and import some of the nastiness from Will Muschamp’s defense (in 2009 they’d use NT Lamarr Houston since Miller graduated) in order to flip the mean switch. Boynton’s Wisdom

Mike Boynton thought SFA was actually in Austin. ?

She said, “Where are we gonna live?” I said, “I don’t know, it’s in Austin, Texas. We’ll find a place.”

I’m from Brooklyn and had never been to Texas. I didn’t know any better.

She’s trying to find a place close to the school to live, and we can’t find the school ’cause it’s not in Austin. She says, “Why don’t we search it by school name?” The map on the screen goes from somewhere over here to off the screen in Louisiana, and that’s how close Stephen F. Austin is to Austin, Texas. I’m looking at the computer, and I can feel her looking at me like, “What are you getting us into?” [NewsOK]

I have nothing to add to that. It’s an awesome read.

Texas Tears

They are the best tears, aren’t they? Part of being a legit program is, you know, not doing stuff that gets you suspended. You don’t get to use the absence of your starters as an excuse when them staying eligible, healthy and ready to roll is part of the deal.

So, did Herman need to suspend Boyd and Davis for a quarter? Sources have indicated to Horns247 that Boyd and Davis had been late to more team functions recently than Humphrey. Talk to former players, and they’ll ask if Boyd and Davis could’ve been punished privately (with extra running, study halls, etc.), so as not to punish the team? [Horns247 — $]

OSU and NCAA News

Great point here about how Sinor flipped the game … Berry T. has Texas No. 1 in his B12 power rankings … A look back at that wild Mahomes-Baker game in Lubbock … On the respect B12 basketball coaches have for each other

I somehow missed all of this lead in …

This is amazing.

This is great.

Fantastic.

The dude.
