Bedlam week! This is how I woke up this morning.

Worried about Dede

The best WR in this game might be James Washington, but Dede certainly poses a huge problem for a team lacking a big-time CB.

Fortunately for the Oklahoma State defense, the best receiving corps in the Big 12 is the one OSU only has to defend in practice. But Saturday presents a challenge unlike what OSU has seen most of the year: A dominant No. 1 target. Westbrook is one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation’s outstanding receiver. In his last eight games, the Sooners senior is averaging 150 yards per game and has 15 touchdowns. He’s also a big-play threat. [Tulsa World]

The problem with saying, “well just double or triple him” is that you have Perine and Mixon in the backfield waiting to eat. They’re going to score 50 on us, aren’t they?

How to win in Norman

Kyle Fredrickson points out a litany of factors including a run game that is eons from where it was just one year ago when OSU got trounced in Stillwater.

Quarterback J.W. Walsh was the run-game savior a year ago, but his departure hasn’t left the program in yet another rushing rut. In conference play, freshman Justice Hill is the Big 12’s third-leading rusher with 106 yards per game. In tandem with senior Chris Carson, OSU has ran for an average of 241 yards in its past three victories. Improved offensive line play and physical blocking from OSU’s Cowboy backs has made it all possible. [NewsOK]

Speaking of Norman, you should read the responses to this tweet.

Tom H. to Austin

Berry Tramel on the danger of Tom Herman in Austin.

Herman arrives in a Big 12 that is ripe for Texas ascension. Baylor is slipping fast, Kansas State’s Bill Snyder can’t coach forever, Texas Tech is a mess and who knows if West Virginia will sustain its 2016 success. So there’s not a lot standing between Texas and the Bedlam blockade at the top of the conference. [NewsOK]

I still want to see it. Texas is seemingly more difficult to win at than it should be (three Big 12 titles in 21 years?) and OU and OSU will have something to say about the B12 champ next year.

How will Herman recruit?

This is from an anonymous B12 recruiter.

“I was rooting for Charlie to stick around because he’s a good guy, but also selfishly because I didn’t want to see the beast awoken again,” the Big 12 recruiter said. “We knew what we were recruiting against with Charlie Strong. With all of the uncertainly that surrounded him, it was easy for us to do damage going head-to-head against them. They weren’t going to beat anybody, but I’m afraid we’re going to get caught up in a wave of excitement that nobody will be able to stop. “They just hit the reset button on the all of the recruiting wars in Texas.” [ESPN – $]

I think this is overstated. Strong had the No. 7 class in the nation last year. How much better is Herman going to do? No. 5? OK. Still have to play the games.

Michigan > Ohio State?

This is why actual outcomes of actual games needs to determine the CFB Playoffs.

Yes, I voted Michigan higher than Ohio State. The Wolverines essentially outplayed their arch rival on the road and I don’t think the football reached the necessary 15-yard line on J.T. Barrett’s fourth-down run in double overtime. As that was the game-decided play, I appointed myself as the replay official and deemed Michigan the winner. Now, if only the College Football Playoff selection committee would do the same. [Whole Hog Sports]

[whispers] you could say the same thing about the Central Michigan-Oklahoma State game.

Who runs it better in Norman?

I think I probably agree with this from Robert Allen which actually give me confidence in OSU.

You really want to know who wins Bedlam for the Big 12 championship next Saturday, then tell me who has the most success running the football because in the end I think that will be the greatest indicator of a winner. Both sides should be a little fearful on that indicator and at the same time a little confident. [Go Pokes]

Also, are we seeing the two best 1-2 punches at RB in the country on Saturday?

Pokes take Minnesota

OSU wrestling torched Minnesota 34-3 over the weekend. Minnesota was ranked No. 16. Austin Schafer upset the No. 5-ranked heavyweight for the Gophers.

I already have tweets stored up for the Zach Sinor fake punt in Bedlam … This is one way to run out the clock at the end of a game.
