Football News

We had Ryan Simmons on the podcast this week. [PFB]

[Pitt return man] Henderson leads the nation with a 53.5-yard return average. He romped to a 96-yard touchdown on a return against Villanova in the opener, then went 84 yards to set up the Panthers’ final touchdown in the win over Penn State. [NewsOK]

Given their relative success Sat., this seems bad. OSU’s running backs touched the ball on 4 of 22 first-quarter plays, 5 of 14 second-quarter plays, 4 of 12 third-quarter plays and 8 of 22 fourth-quarter plays. In addition to the 15 rushes, the backs combined for six receptions (four for Carson and two for Barry J. Sanders). [Tulsa World]

Five players who need more touches vs. Pitt. [PFB]

The TE for Duke during that Miami_Duke debacle last year is concerned about OSU: “As much as I tried to stop it from happening, I want to say that game really kind of dampened our season. I’m hoping for Oklahoma State, that doesn’t happen for them.” [NewsOK]

Bill Haisten with some tough questions here. OSU’s 2016 offensive linemen look like 300-pound athletes, and conditioning never is an issue because strength coach Rob Glass is a superstar. Greg Adkins is a highly regarded line coach, so why can’t his players jell as a unit and lift this offense to a better and more consistent level of performance? If Baylor can recruit and develop stars on the offensive line — and if Baylor can run the heck out of the football and pass effectively — then why isn’t all of that happening at OSU? [Tulsa World]

Mike Gundy, on the other thand, thinks the run game (and blockers) are improving. [PFB]

Gundy on his coaches’ show this week: “I had said to the official that I had never heard of a penalty against the offense extending the game. I said I had heard of a defensive penalty resulting in another play, but never an offensive. He told me that it did this time. I looked out there and saw eight officials huddled up and I knew there were the officials in the replay booth upstairs and I thought if one of them doesn’t realize it then maybe I was wrong. Turns out I was right, but I didn’t use the timeout because they told me that was what we were going to do.” [Go Pokes – $]

This is great.

Roundtable Wednesday on where OSU goes from here and which coaches could be on the hot seat. [PFB]

Cousin Sal lost money on the OSU money line last week! Talks about it at 10:15 here.

Still pumped.

Pitt News

Why you should root for the Cowboys but cheer for James Conner. [PFB]

What Mike Yurcich and Co. can learn from Pitt. [PFB]

Pat Narduzzi says Mike Gundy is a “heck of a coach.” [PFB]

Around the League

Gary Patterson on his kids not crying enough after the Arkansas loss: “Not as much as I would’ve liked to have seen, for that close a ballgame and the way it turned out. A lot of that has to do with you have a lot of young guys. They haven’t put in enough heat here. They haven’t put in enough offseason work here.” [ESPN]

This is bad. Let’s not compare the Big 12 to the other Power-5 conferences. Let’s compare the Big 12 to the American Conference. Does that sober you up? The American has wins over North Carolina State (East Carolina), Purdue (Cincinnati) and OU (Houston). The American has a better record, across the board, against similar competition. [NewsOK]

At least.

It has come to our attention that Chief Uniform Officer Justin Southwell does not think Ole Miss has good uniforms which is about as embarrassing as it gets. Then he released this on Wednesday.

Recruiting News

Brad Underwood covets five-star players. [PFB]

Hoops News

Good look at OSU’s power forwards for this upcoming season (pretty thin!) [PFB]

More Stuff I’m Reading

Is Colin Kaepernick really being heard? I thought this was a good, fair look at the cause Kaepernick has (along with others) taken on. I enjoyed it because it made me think. [Ringer]

Basically.
