Wrapping Up Southeastern Louisiana
10 Thougths on the win. [PFB]
Devante Averette on the team defense: “As a team on the defensive side, we feel like we should have had more. We’ve been practicing it since fall camp. That’s tradition here. I just feel like we could have got more.” [NewsOK]
Glenn Spencer feels the same things about Calvin Bundage as I do: “I had my eye on Calvin a lot. I love his passion for the game. That’s gonna give him a chance. His first play in there, they ran a power, and he was kinda high, and he got knocked back. I said, ‘You know, this isn’t Santa Fe anymore.’” [O’Colly]
My notebook from Saturday. [PFB]
Mike Yurcich with a telling quote on Jhajuan Seales: “I’m expecting Seales to have a huge year. He’s ready, and I think he sees a great opportunity in front of him. I think he’s gonna maximize that. There’s no reason for us not to be optimistic about No. 81.” [O’Colly]
Mike Yurcich on the run game: “They were running with an attitude and some anger. I think they’re ticked off, and it’s good to see. It needs to continue and it needs to continue (in) practice and it needs to carry over into the next week.” [Tulsa World]
Mike Yurcich likes Barry Sanders’ eyes: “Watched him in pregame warm-ups. I like to try to look at everybody’s eyes and see where they’re at. I don’t know if it’s like looking into a crystal ball, but I could see he was grounded and ready to go and he’s got something to prove.” [NewsOK]
Here are the prominent Barry J. highlights from Saturday. The punt return was pretty awesome, but so was the swing pass for a near TD. [PFB]
Rudolph on that Johnny Football-like TD in the second half: “What was going through my mind was, ‘I probably should throw this ball away.’ You don’t want to put it in the score zone and that’s what the whole sideline was screaming at me. I just figured I’d put it at the back of the end zone, us or nobody mentality. So Seales made an awesome play.” [Tulsa World]
Here’s the TD. [PFB]
Mike Gundy’s hair update: still flowing. [PFB]
Gundy on the running game: “It looks like to me we’re a little better at it. But we certainly can’t cancel practice. When you’ve struggled as much with running the ball as we have the last two years, you need to make sure we’re sound, covering guys up, blocking, creating holes and running hard. I think they’ve taken some pride in that.” [NewsOK]
A lot of Pokes among those NFL players who were cut on Saturday. [NewsOK]
Around the Country
This will shock, but Bama is pretty good at football this year. [CBS]
My dude Robby Kalland on OU’s egg against UH: “All of these things are fixable, but the confidence in the coaching staff’s ability to get this team prepared is not particularly high after this showing in the opener. Stoops and company have struggled to get the Sooners to meet and live up to expectations on multiple occasions in his tenure, and without a dramatic turnaround, 2016 is going to be the latest addition to that list of disappointments.” [CBS]
This Nebraska punt formation to honor its punter who died, whoo boy.
