OSU wrestling kicks off its dual season on Saturday night at South Dakota State.

Redshirt freshman Daton Fix will be making the most highly anticipated debut of any Cowboy wrestler in recent memory. It would be hard to script a more exciting matchup as it now looks like he’ll be taking on defending NCAA champion Seth Gross.

Gross had initially certified at 149 pounds and was slated to wrestle at 141 at the NCWA All-Star match.

The matchup at the All-Star classic didn’t happen and question marks emerged as to whether or not we would see Gross at 133 or 141 for the dual on Saturday.

On Sunday, SDSU wrestled Arizona State and Gross stepped out at 133.

All signs now point to the superstar collision of Daton Fix and Seth Gross going down on Saturday night as Daton wrestled the OCU open at 133 last week.

I tweeted about the potential matchup last night and the Cowboy RTC seemed to confirm the expectation with this response.

We all know Daton has some incredible strengths, but Gross is obviously very good as well. I think the matchup on their feet is probably fairly even, with maybe even a slight advantage to Daton. While on the mat, Gross is as good as anyone in the country and likely has a solid edge there.

Gross will have some size on Daton, but 133 is a cut for him. It’s not for Fix, so that could actually be advantage Fix as there won’t be much time between the weigh in and match. Unfortunately our sample size of Daton Fix wrestling college matches is pretty small, so there are some unknowns, but this is certain to be a really good matchup.

This will be available on FloWrestling.
