David Glidden Hired by Memphis in Offensive Quality Control Position

After spending two years at his alma mater Mustang High School as an assistant coach, David Glidden has been hired by the Memphis Tigers as an offensive quality control guy for 2018.

We talked to Glidden a few months ago about his entrance into the post-playing coaching world when he transitioned from playing with the Atlanta Falcons to coaching for the Mustang Broncos. Birds to mammals.

“It’s been an adjustment for sure,” Glidden said. “The adjustment from going from college to the pro game was definitely a big one. From there, when I went from Atlanta back to coaching at the high school level might have been an even bigger adjustment. The differences in the game, the speed, the schemes and really dealing with the kids. I like to think they listen to me. I’m not entirely sure on that one still.”

Anyway, this week Glidden hooked on with Memphis and head coach Mike Norvell, who just led the Tigers to a 10-3 record and lost to Central Florida in the AAC Championship. He told me on Tuesday he was excited and ready to get to work.

Could it be the foundation for a future in which Glidden returns to Stillwater someday as a position coach? Who knows, but Glidden told us in the fall that it would be pretty awesome to link back up with his former signal-caller J.W. Walsh someday to coach college football together.

“Whether we’re up there (in Stillwater) or not, I think being on staff together is one thing that would be a lot of fun for both of us one day,” he said.
