Why OSU Has Emerged as the Favorite for a Four-Star RB from Texas

OSU may have a leg up on a four-star Texas running back.

After coming up dry recently in the hunt for top 2019 target Darwin Barlow, the Newton, Texas product (who committed to TCU), OSU has bounced back with an even bigger target who appears to be trending heavily in favor of the Pokes.

Four-star running back prospect Deondrick Glass, a Katy, Texas product as the No. 14 player at his position and No. 231 overall, has six expert predictions in the 247Sports crystal ball predictor — all of which read orange and black.

Said Mike Roach, recruiting reporter for 247 site Horns 247: “I know that a lot of the schools in this area aren’t prioritizing him, and those around Katy have told us Oklahoma State is making the biggest push for him.”

Glass has close to 30 total offers from the likes of Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Boston College, Colorado — you name it. But at this stage in the recruitment process, many of those suitors have found players to plug holes in the scholarship count. That gives OSU a definitive leg up, both because it doesn’t have a running back in the 2019 class yet and because it continues to pursue him.

“Oklahoma State is recruiting the hardest,” said 247’s EJ Holland. Added another expert, Brandon Drumm, who contributes to OU’s 247 site: “He doesn’t have a lot of committable offers and I know OSU is.”

All three have placed predictions at 247’s website pegging Glass to pick OSU this week, part of a six prediction landslide that has come in in favor of Oklahoma State that also includes votes from Demetric Warren, Derrell Hart and David Johnson.

At this point it appears lack of interest elsewhere is certainly boosting OSU’s chances in Glass’s recruitment. If the staff is able to land him, they’d be getting the top-rated commitment in the 2019 cycle and a second four-star prospect to pit alongside incoming tight end Grayson Boomer.

Glass has rushed for more than 3,500 yards and 56 touchdowns over the course of his sophomore and junior seasons at Katy, which led to his meteoric recruiting rise. So if OSU can snag him, he’d be a fantastic land — and the fourth-highest rated OSU RB commit ever behind only Herschel Sims, Tatum Bell, Tyreek Hill and Devon Thomas.
