Derek White Wins Last Chance World Team Trials Qualifier
White Qualifies for the World Team Trials next weekend.
The final opportunity to qualify for the Wrestling World Team Trials Challenge Tournament took place this Saturday in Atlantic City, New Jersey. And one former Cowboy made the best of it.
The wrestlers in the tournament were all looking to grab final spots in the 2022 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament May 21 and 22 in Coralville, Iowa with all of the tournament winners locking down one of those spots.
Former Oklahoma State heavyweight Derek White was entered 125 KG.
White, who now trains at Michigan’s Cliff Keen Wrestling Club, came in as the No. 1 seed. He opened the tournament with a 10-0 tech over Jake Fernicola, then in the quarterfinals took out Amir Pickens 13-1.
White added another tech in the semifinals, this time over Brayden Homsey. In the finals, he finished off the tournament with a 4-1 win over Cornell’s Lewis Fernandes only giving up one late step-out point while leading 4-0.
