Dillon Stoner is well aware of who his good friend Tylan Wallace is, but he might as well have been oblivious Saturday in Waco.

Stoner shined as WR1 in Oklahoma State’s 42-3 shellacking of Baylor. The fifth-year senior finished Saturday with 247 receiving yards and three touchdowns on eight receptions.

That game is third best in terms of receiving yards in program history, behind only Adarius Bowman’s 300-yard performance against Kansas in 2006 and James Washington’s 296-yard game against Pitt in 2016. That means it ranks ahead of anything Wallace or Justin Blackmon or Dez Bryant ever did in a lone game.

“I don’t even know where to start, I mean just to be conversation with those two guys [Bowman and Washington] is unbelievable and wild,” Stoner said. “Today was just an absolute blast from all around, offensive and defensive perspective. We played great as a team. So, to have that kind of game as my last game is definitely something very special for me.”

Stoner’s career at OSU has been a long one. He was a member of the 2016 recruiting class, and he played in four games as a true freshman before getting a redshirt because of injury.

He has caught passes from Mason Rudolph, Taylor Cornelius, Spencer Sanders, Dru Brown and Shane Illingworth. He could hypothetically return next year because of this year not counting toward eligibility and catch passes from Gunnar Gundy or whoever is slinging the rock in 2021.

Stoner has often been a complimentary piece to the receiving unit, but when he has had the chance at the reins, he has done so with excellent results.

When Wallace tore his ACL last season, Stoner moved out of the slot and replaced him and had 24 catches, 366 yards and five touchdowns in four games.

In his career, Stoner has 186 catches. That’s sixth in program history behind Rashun Woods (296), Justin Blackmon (253), James Washington (226), Hart Lee Dykes (224) and Tylan Wallace (199). Those are all guys who have had multiple seasons as the top target. Stoner has simply put together a solid career and had one last (apart from the bowl game) day in the sun.

“I prepared for it for sure,” Stoner said. “This last game is always something that’s very special. I loved the game plan we had going in. Being at the Z receiver, I knew opportunities were going to come, just a matter of making the most of it when my number was called. I was fortunate to do that a couple times.”
